Da Sweet Blood of Jesus: Spike Lee draws on a number of influences for his latest film- most notably Gangja and Hess, a 70s indie that allegorized the civil rights struggle as a vampiric horror story. We've seen plenty of vampiric lovers fighting addiction over the past few years, and Spike Lee's emergence in this dialogue will be interesting to observe. An alternative to Fifty Shades if you're looking for one.

The Last Five Years: An adaptation of the off-Broadway musical that tells the story of a couple as they meet, fall in love, marry, and eventually divorce. The kicker - the story begins at opposite points for each of them. Cathy sings her experience after the divorce and Jaime begins from the moment they meet and the strange form of this movie is a new take on communication between couples. Also an alternative to Fifty Shades of Grey, if you're looking for one.

Gett: The Trial of Viviane Amsalem: In a series of almost ridiculous courtroom scenes that detail one woman's years-long attempt to divorce her husband, Vivane Amsalem tenaciously takes her relationship and her nation's stringent marriage laws to task. Her real issue, it seems, is with her husband and the legal system's inflexible orthodoxy. Here's hoping she get(t)s that divorce.
