SUMMER FRIDAYS: Indiana Jones, 'Games Of Thrones' & Movie Trivia

The days are growing longer now that summer has officially started, which means that we have more time to do more things! Here's a curated list of affordable things to do this weekend to take full advantage fo the summer. 


Friday, June 6 

Les Tontons Flingueurs

Films on the Green 2014 brings you Georges Lautner's noir gangster flick Les Tontons Flingueurs (Crooks in Clover) this Friday in Washington Square Park. The film follows Fernand (Lino Ventura) an ex-gangster who promises his dying mob-boss friend to take care of his unfinished work. Fernand lives up to his word, but confronts some not-so-happy gangsters who were eyeing the mob-boss' seat. 

A Summer Night with Greenmarket Chefs

You've probably seen Union Square's famous Greenmarket throughout the week with stalls that boast fresh produce and boutique items. So come out and celebrate the amazing chefs and restaurants that contribute to the market every week, and enjoy their delicious food along with live music and summer-themed drinks! 

Stone Cold Fox: Bites the Big Apple

Check out Amy Poehler's comedy Alma Mater at the UCB theatre, and experience New York like you never have before. UCB sketch group Stone Cold Fox will take you to the nooks and crannies of the city in their sketch Stone Cold Fox: Bites the Big Apple. 


Saturday, June 7 

The Amazing Movie Trivia Scavenger Hunt

If you're a New Yorker and a cinephile, this is the perfect opportunity for you to show your stuff. The Amazing Movie Trivia Scavenger Hunt will test your physical and mental strength by placing clues around the city for you to find and strengthen your trivia skills. By the end of the day you will be a bonafide New York movie expert.

Get out your whips and make sure your hands are steady as a rock (for the opening scene reenactment, of course) for Videology's screening and trivia night of Raiders of the Lost Ark . The night will consist of a sandbag removal/opening scene reenactment, trivia, screening, and quote-off!

Come and participate in the annual Figment art festival at Governer's Island. This interactive art festival is a great way to escape Manhattan, hop on a ferry, and spend the day with funky and fun pieces.

Game of Thrones and Mad Men at Huckleberry Bar

What do Tyrion and Don Draper both have in common? They both enjoy a stiff drink (and can't hold their liquor sometimes). If your Sunday night ritual consists of back to back episodes of Game of Thrones and Mad Men, why not do it right and join your other Medieval and 60s enthusiasts at Huckleberry Bar for screenings of both shows!

Sebastien Betbeder's romantic comedy 2 Autumns, 3 Winters is perfect for those who think that rom-coms these days don't have enough meet-cutes or 'break the fourth wall' enough. This French flick tells the story of Arman (Vincent Macaigne) and Amélie's (Maud Wyler) unexpected relationship after they run into each other while jogging.
