This Weekend's Indies: 'Blue Caprice,' 'Wadjda,' and More

Opening in limited release today: Isaiah Washington as the Beltway Sniper, the first ever film from a Saudi Arabian woman, and the latest from Billy Bob Thornton.

This Weekend's Indies: 'Blue Caprice,' 'Wadjda,' and More

Blue Caprice: The thoughtful approach that director Alexandre Moors appears to be taking to this telling of the Beltway Sniper story appears to be yielding something rather accomplished, if the positive reviews are anything to go by. Isaiah Washington and Tequan Richmond star as an unbalanced man and the teenager taken under his wing, respectively.

Wadjda: Director Haifaa Al-Mansour has been justifiably getting a lot of attention this year as Saudi Arabia's first ever female director. Her debut film Wadjda played the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival and has been earning raves basically wherever it's played.

Informant: The former radical leftist turned FBI informant Brandon Darby is the subject of this documentary by director Jamie Meltzer.

Jayne Mansfield's Car: Having once directed the Oscar-winning Sling Blade, Billy Bob Thornton is back directing again with this southern-set 1960s family dramady.
