Summer Fridays: Fourth of July Edition!

Don't let your precious three day weekend go to waste, and make sure you have a packed weekend of barbecues, fireworks, and American fun! We understand that the options can be a bit overwhelming, so we've hand-picked a few events for you to check out for this Independence Day weekend. 

Friday, July 4 

Patriotic Movie Marathon
Videology (all day!)
Ticket: FREE

If you're the type to stay in, lay low, and kick back a few beers- Videology's Patriotic Movie Marathon is the event for you! They will be screening some of their favorite patriotic movies, and selling Budlight for $1. Can't get any more American than that!

Rockabilly Night Market
SRB Brooklyn
Ticket: $10 advance / $15 door

Come and celebrate 1950's Americana at the Rockabilly Nightmarket where there will be vintage as well as handmade goods, food vendors, burlesque dancers, and more! There will also be a PBR open bar from 5-6 so get there early to schmooze and booze a little before indulging in some American fun. 

Macy's Firework Show
Anywhere you can see the Brooklyn Bridge at 9 PM
Ticket: FREE 

This is an obvious one, but just in case you didn't know- Macy's puts on an insane fireworks show every year, and this year (for the first time since 2009) it will be held on the East River! Head over to South Street Seaport or Brooklyn Bridge Park for a great view of the show. In honor of the 200th anniversary of 'The Star Spangled Banner' the fireworks will be in sync to the song, and will make for a spectacular show. 

Saturday, July 5 

Robert Glasper Experiment ft. Talib Kweli, Glenn Kotche, and Aja Monet
Prospect Park Bandshell at 7
Ticket: FREE

If you're rallying all weekend and can wear off your 4th of July hangover, come and see the legendary Robert Glasper accompanied by an unforgettable line up. This jazz pianist and producer is coming to Brooklyn with his very well known act the Robert Glasper Experiment, where he and his other band members perform jazz and hip hop fusions.

Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban 
IFC Center at 11 am 
Ticket: $9 

Sick of watching Harry Potter re-runs on your small computer or TV screen? Wanna experience the dementors and kisses of death in a real way? Well this weekend IFC Center is screening Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban to offer you the completely HP experience. Take a break from 4th of July goodness and escape to the best place in the world- Hogwarts. 

Sunday, July 6th

Big Screen Epics: The Wizard of Oz 
Bam Harvey Theater at 3 PM
Ticket: $14 for Adults 

As part of their Big Screen Epics special, BAM Harvey Theater in Brooklyn will be screening six epic movies from July 2-9. This Sunday will be the screening of The Wizard of Oz  that will offer you the chance to watch this 1939 classic on the big screen!

ASSSSCAT 3000 
UCB Chelsea at 7:30 PM
Ticket: $10 

One of the greatest things about living in New York is that we have the chance to see some of America's funniest comedians perform live. Upright Citizens Brigade is the perfect way to take advantage of this, especially through their show ASSSSCAT 3000. The title obviously doesn't give much away about the show, but all-star guests from Saturday Night Live, 30 Rock, and The Colbert Report frequent this live comedy set every Sunday night. Grab your tickets quick!
