Your Weekend Repertory Screenings: 'The Breakfast Club,' 'Top Gun' and More

If you can brave the cold this weekend, head over to your local NYC theater for a couple of 80's classics, Western gems, some Coen Brothers, and even a musical. January repertory series are wrapping up, so catch the last of them while you can!

All the President’s Men (1976)

11:00 am
IFC Center

The story of Nixon’s right-hand men and how they attempted to cover up the Watergate scandal. Alan J. Pakula makes it a history lesson but Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford make it a political thriller even though we’re all well aware of the outcome. The film will end the month-long series The Way He Was: Early Redford.

Top Gun (1986)
12:00 am
Nitehawk

Break out your old leather bomber jacket and aviators because Top Gun is in the repertory lineup this weekend. It's the 80's movie that defined 80's movies - adventure, love, and one heck of a soundtrack.

Saturday, January 25th

The Sound of Music (1965)

2:00 pm
Museum of the Moving Image

If the NBC special back in December didn’t do it for you, Museum of the Moving Image has a special screening this Saturday as part of the series, See it Big! Musicals.

The Breakfast Club (1985)

Nitehawk

See the repertory that originally started Nitehawk’s Boozy Brunch weekends. The Princess, the Jock, the Rebel, the Nerd, and the Kook – stuck together for an entire day of Saturday detention imposed upon them by their joke of a principal, Richard Vernon. The opposites bond over shared struggles, pot, and their collective hate of high school. It's the movie you know and love and could watch over and over again so go! Just go.

Sunday, January 26th

Nitehawk

The Coens and Sam Raimi team up once again for the brothers’ fifth feature. Norville Barnes (Tim Robbins), a mere mailroom worker is instantly promoted to CEO of Hudsucker Industries, but not exactly because of his qualifications. Sidney J. Mussburger (Paul Newman) hopes Barnes will put the company in the toilet so he can profit from the stock shares before they go public. All is going according to plan until a hula-hoop comes into play...
