Watch the Trailer for an Award-Winning Ukrainian Drama Told Entirely in Sign Language

We've been salivating for Myroslav Slaboshpitskiy's The Tribe for nearly a year now, ever since Cannes audiences went crazy for it at last year's Festival, where it won the Grand Prize during Critics' Week.

Performed entirely in sign language without any subtitles or translation, this brutal coming-of-age drama tells the story of a deaf Ukrainian teenager's difficult transition into a merciless boarding school system on its own bold and brilliant terms.

New Yorkers, be sure to keep an eye out for this one when it arrives in limited release on Wednesday, June 17th, at the ever-invaluable Film Forum.

In the meantime, IndieWire has the trailer for this stunning, strong-minded exercise in idiomatic storytelling that looks both wholly distinctive and spectacularly cinematic.
