How Transmedia Can Lead To Social Change

Editor’s Note: Lina Srivastava recently gave this great talk at TEDx Transmedia conference in Rome. She outlines several transmedia projects that are designed to create social change and highlights their common approach to achieve this through new storytelling techniques. Each is an example of the bold experimentation being done by creators who combine new technology platforms with inventive storytelling techniques.

As she says, “…transmedia moves people from Awareness to Engagement — by building a story universe…each project has at its core the use of local voice, in partnership with the platform creators. So they have truly community-centered participation. Each uses its platform to move beyond awareness, to connect audiences and change agents to commit to a particular worldview, advocacy or action, by using these local stories and art. Finally, each project uses a number of platforms to cross borders to foster transformation.”
