2010 Jurors Answer Life's Questions
Get to know the Tribeca Film Festival 2010 jurors, starting with director Zoe Cassavetes and U.S. Secretary of State's Policy Planning Staff member Jared Cohen.
The 2010 Tribeca Film Festival is delighted to announce its juror slate. 36 jurors who are at the top of their field in acting, directing, writing, journalism, and art will decide the winning films in the World Narrative Feature Competition, the World Documentary Feature Competition, the Best New York Narrative Competition, the Best New York Documentary Competition, the Narrative Shorts, the Documentary and Student Shorts, and the Tribeca All Access Competition.
In an effort to get to know these artists a little better, we asked them to submit their answers to some questions about life, art, films, and inspiration. First up? Director Zoe Cassavetes and Jared Cohen, a member of the U.S. Secretary of State's Policy Planning Staff and author of the books Children of Jihad and One Hundred Days of Silence.

Who are your favorite heroes/heroines in movies?
Humphrey Bogart, Marcello Mastroianni, Monica Vitti, Jeanne Moreau
In real life?
People who aren't afraid to challenge the status quo
What would your biopic be called?
Walking on Eggshells
Are there any movies that you find yourself quoting all the time?
Many, many films. "What happened, I woke up, you're not there. I hate that." Fatal Attraction.
What's your earliest memory of seeing (and loving?) a movie in the theater?
Logan's Run, Every Which Way But Loose. (Michael York! Clint Eastwood!)
With what movie character do you identify most?
Neo from The Matrix??? Ha.
What gets you up and going in the morning?
An earthquake? I'm not a morning person.
What’s your favorite thing about New York?
People are really nice.
What's your life philosophy or motto?
Get up and try again. What else are you going to do?
What's your chief characteristic?
I'm very disciplined. And strangely hopeful.
What piece of art (film/book/music/what-have-you) do you recommend to your friends?
Straight: No Chaser, a documentary on Thelonius Monk

An American Tail. Gotta love the Jewish mouse from Russia.

Tough one. I don't know, probably some cartoon.
What gets you up and going in the morning?
I love my job.
What's your favorite thing about New York?
The energy of the city and the hot pretzel stands.
What's your life philosophy or motto?
The 21st century is a bad time to be a control freak, or, it's amazing what you can get if you just ask.
What's your chief characteristic?
Passionate
What piece of art (film/book/music/what-have-you) do you recommend to your friends?
King Leopold's Ghost or Ghost Wars, both kind of dark books but excellent.
