Ring in 2012 with New Year's Eve Movies!
As we say farewell to 2011, Tribeca's staff recommends some of our favorite New Year's Eve moments on film.
Celebrate New Year's Eve with Tribeca!
What better way to ring in the New Year than with a great film? With a little help from the Tribeca staff, we've pulled together some memorable New Year's Eve movies that will ensure a great start to 2012!
Let's begin with the NYE classics....
Dirs. Allison Anders, Alexandre Rockwell, Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino, 1995
This New Year's Eve anthology film truly has something for everyone! It features not one, but four very different end of the year celebrations! However, the real treat is Tarantino's The Man From Hollywood segment that ends the film.
Dir. Risa Bramon Garcia, 1999
A blast to the past! Set in 1981, 200 Cigarettes is about an assortment of twentysomethings that try to find love and cope with their own neuroses on New Year's Eve in NYC.
Dir. Francis Ford Coppola, 1974
Maybe you don't have to watch all three hours of the second installment of The Godfather Saga, but the film does feature the greatest NYE scene of all time. "I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart."

The passengers onboard the capsized SS Posedion didn't exactly have a great New Year's Eve, but what a memorable night!

Can't anyone forget Norma Desmond's NYE party for her golden boy, Joe Gillis?

Billy Wilder needs no introduction. This classic film has a memorable NYE sequence that has been rehashed by countless films since.

For New Year's, not to pander of anything, but I genuinely love Tribeca alum In Search Of A Midnight Kiss. I feel like if you're highlighting movies for New Year's, you can't go wrong with this one. ISOAMK totally captures being a single guy in your 20s on New Year's—such a great movie, love it.

Have you ever "jacked" in? Set in the last days of the old millennium, Strange Days is an underrated gem of a film that features a climactic New Year's Eve celebration on the streets of a futuristic L.A. It's a unique blend of genres (ranging from science fiction to noir to romance to thriller and more), and features great performances from Ralph Fiennes, Juliette Lewis, Tom Sizemore and Vincent D'Onofrio.
