American Express invites Cardmembers to experience Tribeca Film Festival On the Road in Houston: October 14-15; Westfield, NJ: October 21-23; San Francisco: October 28-30; and Chicago: November 11-13. In each city, Cardmembers will enjoy exclusive screenings of some of the year’s best independent films, followed by Q&A sessions with the filmmakers after each showing.

Ticket proceeds will benefit the Tribeca Film Institute.

In Houston, the two-day festival will kick off Friday night at the Alamo Drafthouse (in the West Oaks Mall) with a 7:30 pm screening of Janie Jones on Friday, October 14. The rock ‘n’ roll drama, which premiered at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival, stars Abigail Breslin and Alessandro Nivola as a musical daughter and father who forge a relationship after many years apart. Following the movie, star Abigail Breslin and director David M. Rosenthal* will be on hand for a lively Q&A, and then all ticket holders will be invited to an exclusive after-party with complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. A bonus screening of the Tribeca Film short Mr. Stache will precede the feature.

On Saturday, October 15, there will be individual screenings of six independent films, some of which will also be preceded by Mr. Stache. In addition to Janie Jones, TFF On the Road will include the following features:

Don't Go In the Woods

Don't Go In the Woods is sound advice, especially when there's a killer on the loose. First-time director Vincent D'Onofrio (Full Metal Jacket, Law & Order: Criminal Intent) explores love, greed and ruthlessness in this twisted musical/horror hybrid, telling the story of a young band who heads to the woods to get away from their everyday lives in order to focus on writing new songs. Hoping to walk away from the trip with new tunes that will score them their big break, they instead find themselves in the middle of a nightmare beyond comprehension. Displaying the musical talents of a gifted ensemble cast as they sing songs penned by acclaimed singer-songwriter Sam Bisbee, the film unexpectedly veers from terrifying horror to musical moments that wouldn't be out of place on Glee, truly keeping viewers captivated, terrified and entertained in equal measure.

The Man on the Train

The English-language remake of Patrice Leconte's award-winning French film of the same name, The Man on the Train stars Donald Sutherland and musician Larry Mullen, Jr. in his acting debut. A mysterious criminal (Mullen Jr.) rolls into a small town planning to knock off the local bank, assuming it will go off without a hitch. But when he encounters a retired poetry professor (Sutherland), his plans take an unlikely turn. With no place to stay, the professor generously welcomes him into his home. As the two men talk, a bond forms between these two polar opposites, and surprising moments of humor and compassion emerge.

The Last Rites of Joe May
Small-time Chicago hustler Joe May (the incomparable Dennis Farina) always felt like a great destiny awaited him, but with his health ailing and his age advancing, he's never looked more like a bum. Broke and evicted, he's taken in by a troubled young mother and daughter, in whom he finds one last shot to be a hero. Pulsing with the spirit of classic urban dramas, The Last Rites of Joe May is a subtle, sophisticated tale of redemption.

Ultrasuede: In Search Of Halston

A glowing, prismatic portrait of the rise and fall of America's first celebrity designer—Halston—the man who was synonymous with fashion in the 1970s, and became the emperor of NYC nightlife. Interviews with friends and witnesses (including Liza Minnelli, Diane Von Furstenberg, André Leon Talley, Anjelica Huston, Bob Colacello, and Billy Joel, among others) round out this glittering evocation of the man who defined the most beautiful and decadent era of recent memory.

Northeast
Will (David Call), an unemployed and aimless playboy in Brooklyn, has spent his 20s skating on easy charm from one casual, distant relationship to the next. But as his friends gradually settle into steady jobs and committed relationships, Will takes one last shot at finding a real connection with someone and with it a foothold in the next stage of his life. Shot on 16mm with a who’s-who cast from the New York DIY film scene, Northeast represents both the debut of an original directorial voice and a moment of renaissance for the early days of American independent film.
