Writer-director Ava DuVernay founded the African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement (AFFRM). In 2010 was awarded the Best Director Prize at Sundance for the film Middle of Nowhere. DuVernay's most recent film Selma chronicles the historic 1965 voting rights campaign led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
