Tribeca Talks: Storytellers
| 60 MINUTES
In addition to being one of the most beloved actors, Tom Hanks has also produced and directed an astounding number of films and will discuss his passion for great stories. Political commentator and television host John Oliver leads a conversation with Hanks discussing his prolific career.

Tom Hanks
As one of only two actors in history to win back-to-back lead actor Academy Awards, Tom Hanks is no stranger to critical acclaim. Best known for his performances in major motion pictures like Forrest Gump, Big and Castaway, Hanks’ talents extend far beyond on screen. His Broadway debut in Nora Ephron’s Lucky Guy earned him Drama Desk, Drama League, and Tony nominations. In 1996, Hanks made his feature film debut as writer/director/star with That Thing You Do, commencing a more versatile involvement with production. His role in the film Saving Private Ryan led Hanks to collaborate with Steven Spielberg on the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers. It is now one of several Emmy and Golden Globe winning political projects Hanks has produced with HBO. His own production company, Playtone, has generated smash hits like My Big Fat Greek Wedding, The Polar Express and Mamma Mia! His prolific talent has earned him the American Film Institute’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Chaplin Award, and a Kennedy Center Honor.

John Oliver
John Oliver is the Peabody award-winning host of HBO's Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, now in its third season. On occasional breaks from the show, John returns to his first love of stand-up, performing at sold-out venues worldwide. Previously, he was correspondent, guest host and Emmy award-winning writer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. John also co-writes and co-presents hit satirical podcast The Bugle, and has hosted four seasons of John Oliver’s New York Stand-Up Show (Comedy Central). His other credits include a regular guest role on Community (NBC), and guest roles in The Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers.
