TRIBECA TALKS: OFF SCREEN - CROWDFUNDING 101

Three festival filmmakers working in documentary, narrative, and webseries sit down with Kickstarter’s Director of Narrative, Elise McCave, to uncover the real story behind their crowdfunding triumphs, trials, and tribulations. Sam Voutas (King of Peking), Carlye Rubin (The Family I Had), and Matthew Wilkas (New York Is Dead) will also offer some insider tips and festival do’s and don’ts.

Matthew Wilkas

Matthew Wilkas is a NYC based actor/writer who appeared in “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark” on Broadway where he was “Flash Thompson” and then “Peter Parker/Spider-man”. He also stars alongside Jenn Harris in the award-winning Gayby. Other credits include: Looking, Ugly Betty, and Chris Rock's film Top Five.

Elise McCave

Elise McCave

Elise works at Kickstarter as Director of Narrative Film, responsible for working with filmmakers and film organizations worldwide to bring film and video projects to life, to build communities of support, and to ensure the voices finding their place on Kickstarter come from all corners of the community,  and produce work that explores the form to the fullest. Elise joined Kickstarter in 2016 after more than eight years working with BRITDOC, a non-profit supporting documentary filmmakers based in London and New York.

Sam Voutas

Sam Voutas

Australian Sam Voutas was raised in Beijing in the 80s and 90s. His Chinese language feature film, Red Light Revolution, was recently included on the British Film Institute’s list of “10 Great Films Set in Beijing” and went on to win the People’s Choice Award at the 2011 Singapore International Film Festival.

Carlye Rubin

Carlye Rubin

After working in various capacities on documentaries including Capitalism: A Love Story and The Swell Season, Carlye co-founded Smoke & Apple Films in 2011 with Katie Green to make her directorial debut with The (Dead Mothers) Club which broadcast on HBO in 2014.
