If you received an unexpected letter from your high school girlfriend saying she was dying and wanted you to come back, what would you do? Twenty-five years after abandoning his hometown, Don McKay (Thomas Haden Church) gets such a letter from Sonny (Elisabeth Shue). He decides to go back home, but Sonny doesn't seem quite like Don remembers her, and soon we realize that Don is guarding a shameful secret from his past. Plus, Don seems to rub Sonny's stern caretaker (Melissa Leo) and her doctor (James Rebhorn) the wrong way. Things couldn't get any stranger, until a shocking run-in doubles Don's secrets….

In his debut thriller, writer/director Jake Goldberger lets his stellar cast loose in a story where no one is who they seem and everyone appears to be hiding something. Haden Church's Don is unguarded and governed mostly by his emotions, but he's smart enough to know when something's fishy. Elisabeth Shue ratchets up the tension by tempering Sonny's whimsical side with an undeniable hint of mystery. And Melissa Leo, ever the chameleon, plays tight-lipped Marie with such a dark, confident wit that she becomes more intriguing with each of her scenes.
