Join us for an engaging exploration of Zayd Ayers Dohrn’s Mother Country Radicals, an original podcast from Crooked Media and Audacy. This special event will feature Dohrn in conversation with his mother Bernardine Dohrn and father Bill Ayers, radicals and counter-culture outlaws who spent his childhood on the run from the FBI. The series takes us back to the 1970s, when Zayd’s parents and their young friends declared war on the United States government—from brawls with riot cops on the streets of Chicago to declarations of war on the United States government with bombings at the Pentagon and Capitol. Zayd Dohrn
Zayd Dohrn was born underground and raised in New York City. His plays have been produced off-Broadway, across the country, and internationally, including in Brazil, Germany, Panama, Sweden, and China. Awards include the Horton Foote New American Play Prize, the Edgerton Foundation New Play Award, the Kennedy Center’s Jean Kennedy Smith Award, the Sky Cooper American Playwriting Prize, Theatre Master’s Visionary Playwright Award, and Lincoln Center’s Lecomte du Nouy Prize. Zayd has developed TV pilots for HBO and Showtime, and is currently writing feature screenplays for Netflix and FilmNation. He attended Columbia University, received his MFA from NYU, and was a two-year Lila Acheson Wallace Fellow at Juilliard. He is a Professor and Director of the MFA in Writing for Screen + Stage at Northwestern.
William Ayers
William Ayers, Distinguished Professor of Education and Senior University Scholar at the University of Illinois at Chicago (retired) has written extensively about social justice and democracy, education and the cultural contexts of schooling, and teaching as an essentially intellectual, ethical, and political enterprise. His books include Teaching toward Freedom; Fugitive Days: A Memoir; Public Enemy: Confessions of an American Dissident; To Teach: The Journey, in Comics; and Demand the Impossible! a radical manifesto.
Bernardine Dohrn
Bernardine Dohrn, activist, academic and children’s and women’s rights advocate, is a retired Associate Clinical Professor at Northwestern University School of Law, where she was the founding director of the Children and Family Justice Center for twenty-three years. Dohrn taught women, children, and gender human rights law at Northwestern, was a visiting professor for ten years at Leiden University faculty of law in the Netherlands, is a Lecturer at the University of Chicago, and teaches at Colby College.
