The Lady in Question is Charles Busch

| USA | 90 MINUTES | English
Documentary

With their feature debut, directors John Catania and Charles Ignacio, captivatingly construct a magnificent portrait of one of the contemporary American theater's great visionaries, Charles Busch. The creator of Vampire Lesbians of Sodom, Psycho Beach Party, The Tale of the Allergist's Wife and most recently Shanghai Moon. He is known for his drag entity, a composite of Hollywood screen sirens from Jean Harlow to Barbara Stanwyck that comments on gender roles and ideals of femininity. In addition to exceptional archival footage of Busch's productions from the East Village storefront-based Theater in Limbo to the Broadway stage and the silver screen, Catania and Ignacio also unveil the man underneath the wig. Busch openly discusses his work, inspirations, and the themes that run through the characters he plays. Julie Halston, Paul Rudnick, BD Wong, Michael Musto, Jason Priestley, Boy George, and Rosie O'Donnell all speak insightfully about working with Busch as well as some of the personal hardships he has endured from losing friends and fellow Theater in Limbo members to AIDS to his emergency heart surgery. As the story of Busch's career unfolds, the audience is treated to a silent, '20s-style short starring Busch and created especially for this film. The directors carefully weave this short throughout the film along with old trailers of films that inspired Busch's characters, which gives the film a natural and unique style. By the end, it is no question that the lady in question is Charles Busch.
