Marion Vernoux feature, starring César-winning actress Fanny Ardant, announces U.S. distribution deal ahead of its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival

“…frank and endearing portrait of cross-generational relationships” – The Hollywood Reporter, Jordan Mintzer

New York, NY [September 13, 2013] –Tribeca Film today announced it is acquiring U.S. rights to Marion Vernoux’s BRIGHT DAYS AHEAD, ahead of its North American premiere tonight at the 2013 Toronto International film Festival and was released in France earlier this year. The film, with a screenplay adapted by Vernoux from Fanny Chesnel’s novel Une jeune fille aux cheveux blancs (A Young Girl with Gray Hair), stars César-winning French cinema icon Fanny Ardant, along with Laurent Lafitte, Patrick Chesnais, Jean-Francois Stevenin, and Marie Riviere.  BRIGHT DAYS AHEAD was produced by Les Films du Kiosque and 27.11 Production.

In BRIGHT DAYS AHEAD Caroline (Fanny Ardant) has retired, at last. A new life lies before her: time to take care of her children, of her husband, and – above all – herself. She soon comes to realize that this new freedom is synonymous with boredom and idleness. Especially when she receives a membership to her neighborhood’s senior club as a birthday present. Reluctant at first, she decides to take the plunge. Oddly enough, she meets great people there, starting with the young computer science teacher, who is far from insensible to her charms. Caroline will gradually take control of her life again and live a second youth taking a new lover, living new experiences, breaking the rules, not doing what’s expected of you. Who said that retirement was the beginning of the end and not a new beginning?

“BRIGHT DAYS AHEAD is the kind of engaging adult drama we rarely get to see,” said Geoffrey Gilmore, Chief Creative Officer Tribeca Enterprises. “Fanny Ardent, one of the icons of French Cinema, plays a woman of a certain age rediscovering herself, her sexuality and her zest for life. In a role that seems made for her, Ardent’s performance soars with sensuousness in captivating romance that is both real and gratifying,”

“For an independent French director to know her film is going to cross the Atlantic sea feels a little like Cinderella being invited to the ball,” said director Marion Vernoux.

The deal was negotiated for Tribeca Film by Alison Diviney, Manager of Acquisitions, and Camille Neel, Head Of International Sales on behalf of the filmmakers.
