Watch Ava DuVernay's Full Conversation With Q-Tip From TFF 2015

Sit back, relax, and enjoy this enlightening discussion between the SELMA director and the hip-hop great.

There’s a reason why Mattel recently made a new Barbie doll inspired by Ava DuVernay—she, as the toy company puts it, is a true "sheroe."

The bold and immensely gifted filmmaker’s years spent hustling the indie scene culminated in last year’s Selma, the stellar Oscar-nominated Martin Luther King, Jr., biopic centered on the Civil Rights leaders work in securing voting rights for black Americans in 1965. In an industry that’s famously been dominated by male directors, DuVernay has solidified her place on Hollywood's A-list and, as a result, motivated countless young women to pursue their behind-the-camera dreams with more vigor than ever before.

During the Tribeca Film Festival, DuVernay visited the SVA Theatre for a special Tribeca Talks®: Director Series event with NYC hip-hop pioneer Q-Tip. For an on-the-scene recap, check out our in-depth coverage; to see the whole thing for yourself, watch DuVernay and Q-Tip's full sit-down interview in the video above.
