Tribeca Film Acquires Scottish Prison Drama ‘Starred Up’

Featuring masterful performances from Jack O’Connell (‘Skins’) and Ben Mendelsohn, this gritty prison film transfixed audiences on the festival circuit.

We’re happy to announce that Tribeca Film has picked up the North American rights to Starred Up, the searing Scottish drama from filmmaker David Mackenzie (Young Adam, Asylum). The film was well received at this year’s Toronto and Telluride Film Festivals, largely due to a brilliant breakout performance by Jack O’Connell.

Starred Up follows a troubled young offender named Eric (O’Connell) who, because of his violent and erratic behavior, is transferred to the same adult prison where his estranged father (Ben Mendelsohn) is being held. Out of control and fighting constantly the prison guards and his fellow inmates, Jack is sent to work with Oliver (Homeland’s Rupert Friend), a volunteer psychotherapist who recognizes Jack’s untapped warmth and potential. As Jack works to improve himself, he must decide whether to finally forgive his father before it’s too late.

Look for Starred Up on VOD, digital platforms and select theaters sometime in 2014.
