dot LGBT – Broadening the Web or Simply Pigeonholing It?
What you need to know:
An interesting debate has begun over the creation of a purchasable “.LGBT” domain name by an Irish company called Afilias. A number of organizations (including the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association) claim that “.LGBT” merely seeks to stereotype and monetize a presumed gay lifestyle, while Afilias has defended its creation as a practical and inclusive safe space for members of the wider community.
What Tribeca says: All web-users deserve the right to feel secure and accepted on the internet. Whether “.LGBT” can ensure this for its consumers remains to be seen, but it’s an intriguing option all the same.

Test Your Kanye Knowledge
What you need to know: A new website allows Kanye West’s fans (and critics!) to play a surprisingly challenging guessing game of “Who Said It?” between the self-certified Rap God and an arrogant, everyday Creative Director. Sure, “Hurry up with my damn crossaints!” will be a dead giveaway, but even those who can rap The College Dropout backwards will be surprised at the increasing level of difficulty.
Tribeca says: Creative geniuses say the darndest things.

Tribeca says: This retrospective is giving underappreciated black independent filmmakers their long-postponed moments in the spotlight and should not be missed.
