Even though we’re neck-deep in the Festival, one external pop culture development caught our eye this week: the release of the new app PUNCH!, developed exclusively for the iPad. This free app is packed full of original, topical and irreverent news and entertainment, all in game-like experiences, so not only is it beautiful to look at, it’s also lots of fun. And what’s more, the brains behind PUNCH! are people you’ve come to know and trust to deliver the goods: Dana Levy (DailyCandy), Maer Roshan (Radar), and David S. Bennahum (American Independent).
PUNCH! offers a must-tap look at original news and entertainment with a cheeky sensibility, including Hollywood gossip, hard-hitting news, book and music releases, and more. Think of it as “pop culture desconstructed,” and all of it is endemic to the iPad.
What will you find?
♦ The Culture Shelf is a series of scrollable shelves culled by PUNCH!’s editors, showcasing the things you NEED to know about right now.
♦ Shelf items are updated constantly, so tap back in often to find new items sure to entertain, inform and delight.
♦ Look for the Tribeca Film reel and Festival badge to see behind the scenes and bonus content from Festival films with a connection to NYC. The shelf item includes an illustrated map of NYC, videos of TFF films, and an illustrated Mayor Bloomberg giving you neighborhood tips.
What to do:
♦ Download PUNCH!
♦ Browse the Culture Shelf. (Look for the Tribeca Film reel!)
♦ Share PUNCH! items with your friends on Facebook and Twitter via the built-in social sharing functionalities.
