Tribeca Sets Sail with Cunard Line

The Tribeca / Cunard Line partnership brings World Documentaries to TFF 2009 and Tribeca programming to luxury cruise liners. Oh, and did we mention you could win a free voyage for two?

The Tribeca Film Festival is delighted to announce its new partnership with Cunard Line, and film fans should be too!

The partnership with this iconic British ocean liner company is multifaceted, including onboard film programming for two upcoming Transatlantic voyages; sponsorship of the 2009 World Documentary Feature competition; and the official 2009 Tribeca Film Festival Swag Bag grand prize: a Transatlantic voyage for two aboard Queen Mary 2®! That’s right: one lucky winner will get to continue his or her Festival experience with a six-day Transatlantic Crossing from New York to Southampton, England this fall. Cunard will also act as the Official Cruise Line of the Tribeca Film Festival.

Carol Marlow, president of Cunard Line, explained, “For decades, Cunard has enjoyed a rich and rewarding connection to the film industry, playing host to generations of Hollywood luminaries and sponsoring myriad programs to promote and advance original work in film and the arts. This partnership further underscores our commitment to crafting stimulating onboard experiences that speak to the interests of our guests. We look forward to working with the Tribeca Film Festival to further expand the audience for independent film.”

As sponsor of the 2009 World Documentary Feature competition, Cunard will help Tribeca bring to the Festival a wide range of films from around the world. These films tell important global interest stories that inspire and challenge, each from a unique perspective and with a distinctive voice. One of these films will win the 2009 Best Documentary Award, to be announced on Thursday, April 30. (The award comes with a $25,000 prize, which can mean the world to a documentary filmmaker. Additionally, Cunard will award the grand prize documentary filmmaker a legendary Transatlantic Crossing on the company's flagship Queen Mary 2.) Past films in this category have gone on to win the Academy Award™ for Best Documentary (Taxi to the Dark Side, 2007; Man on Wire, 2008). Others have been nominated (Jesus Camp, 2006) and short-listed (Autism: The Musical, 2007; Street Fight,2005, etc.), so this category comes with a demonstrated pedigree.

But the Festival is just the beginning of the Tribeca/Cunard partnership. On two upcoming voyages—one in November of this year and the other in April of 2010—Tribeca programmers will curate the line’s Cunard Insights program, a comprehensive package of independent film screenings, guest lecturers and discussions that will entertain and challenge on-board guests. This exclusive programming will be designed with the classic tastes of Cunard guests in mind.

And finally, Cunard will be sponsoring the premier Tribeca Film Festival Swag Bag giveaway: during the 2009 Festival, film fans can enter the Cunard Tribeca Film Festival Sweepstakes. Unlike anything ever offered to Tribeca fans in the past, the grand prize is one six-day Transatlantic voyage for two aboard Cunard’s Queen Mary 2®, departing New York on November 5, 2009, and arriving in Southampton, England on November 11. Included in the prize will be accommodations in a Premium Balcony Stateroom (double occupancy); dining in the Britannia Restaurant; ground transportation; and roundtrip coach airfare. The prize has an approximate retail value of $4,998, and entries must be received by May 21, 2009. Learn more and enter today at www.cunard.com/tribeca.

Once again, we are thrilled to have Cunard Line aboard the 2009 Tribeca Film Festival!
