5 Must-See Panels at TFF 2015

With over 50 talks and events at this year's festival, the selection process can be a little daunting. Here are give must-see picks to get you started.

Tribeca Talks: Long Story Short

As shorter bursts of entertainment permeate almost every medium from mobile video to TV, we talk to some of the most prominent short-form content creators in the industry today. Featuring panelists like Eternal Princess director Katie Holmes, ESPN Films' Dan Silver, High Maintenance creators Ben Sinclair & Katja Blichfeld, and Billy on the Street's Billy Eichner, this Tribeca Talks event is bound to be as eclectic as it is informative. To get a taste of what you're in for, check out this excerpt from Billy on the Street featuring Olivia Wilde, who stars in Meadowland.

Tribeca Talks: Snap It, Vine It, Tube It

Moderated by Maker Studios founder Lisa Donovan, this event features panelists who started their career on mobile video platforms like Alphacat and Michael & Evan Gregory of Auto-tune the News. If you're up to date on your Netflix queue, you've probably heard the Gregory brothers' latest song in the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt opening credits sequence. Alphacat is the stage name of Iman Crosson, whose impressions of Barack Obama got the attention of the President himself. You can ask these self-starters your questions on April 23 at 2:30pm.

Tribeca Talks: David Rockwell - How Does a Space Tell a Story?

You don't have to be an architectural designer yourself to realize how much narrative work goes into building a set. Award-winning architect David Rockwell will be on hand for this Tribeca Talks event to discuss his influential Broadway stage designs as well as his work for renowned locations like NeueHouse, Edition Hotels, and Nobu. Now at the head of Rockwell Group, an architectural practice disseminating his design philosophy in projects around the world, Rockwell will talk space, design, and storytelling with restauranteur Danny Meyer.

Tribeca Talks: Immerse Yourself

As interactivity begins to permeate new media entertainment, the idea of immersing yourself calls for more than a certain degree of mental focus. To track this trajectory towards increasingly immersive storytelling, this event assembles experts from the field to talk tech, science, innovation, and evolving methods of spectatorship. Scheduled panelists include author Jonathan Gottschall of The Storytelling Animal: How Stories Make Us Human, author Frank Rose of The Art of Immersion: How the Digital Generation is Remaking Hollywood, National Georgraphic's Jason Silva, and moderator Jon Erlichman. Indispensible for anyone concerned with the future of the moving image, the variety of perspectives on this panel are sure to yield a fruitful intellectual conversation.

Tribeca Talks: Secrecy & Power

Names like Edward Snowden, Chelsea Manning, Julian Assange never quite left our cultural lexicon, especially at this crucial moment in the net neutrality debate. As the internet continues to lend an anonymity perfect for resistance, this Tribeca Talks event features professionals invested in the unique vector of activism and hacktivism. Panelists include former spy Valerie Plame, Pulitzer-prize winning journalist Bart Gellman, We Steal Secrets: The Story of WikiLeaks director Alex Gibney and The Ethical Hacker. Be sure not to miss DEFCON at Spring Studios, where you can learn to do a little hacking yourself. Spring Passes are available here.
