Tribeca Talks: Future of Film - The Game-Changer: Building Faster, Smarter Games on the Cloud

How can you game faster, build smarter and meet gamer demands through creating games on the cloud? Come and play games created by New York City game developers in a 48-hour game jam and join them as they discuss the process of designing and building games IBM tools and technology inspired by the theme "Acceleration." Pre-cocktail meet & greet + play session begins at 12:30. Panelists will include Luke Schantz, Developer Advocate - Innovation, Emerging Technologies and Entrepreneurship at IBM, Kati Nawrocki the Global Creative Director at The Economist Media Businesses, Jay Suong, Co-Founder and Lead AI and VR Programmer at InitialPrefabs and Kurt Young, founder and CEO of Mokuni LLC. Moderated by Amara Keller, Developer Advocate at IBM.

IBM will partner with Tribeca Games for a game jam for 15 of New York’s top independent game developers. The jam will bring together three teams of five developers to build three new games using IBM tools and technology. These games will be made available for play during the Festival in the Festival Lounge at the Tribeca Festival Hub.

Luke Schantz is a multi-disciplinary creative and technical professional at IBM who works to bridge the gap between enterprise innovation, startups and reality. Through partnerships and authentic community building, he facilitates scalable solutions and healthy ecosystems. He is passionate about his work and strives to provide value through every interaction. In addition to his professional work, Luke is active in a variety of social impact, educational, maker and creative engineering endeavors. Notably, Luke spent 5 years working with the Blue Man Group and his creative work with them has been seen by millions of people worldwide. He has also taught courses in multi-media programing, 3D design, animation, 3D Printing and electronics and has given guest lectures at NYU, , The New School and Temple University. He and his wife were the first couple ever 3D laser scanned on their wedding day. He also makes robots.

Kati Nawrocki

Kati Nawrocki

Kati Nawrocki is an award-winning multi-disciplinary creative based in New York City. Originally from Germany, she came to the United States to study drawing at Pratt Institute.As creative lead at Brooklyn based Computerlunch Games, she worked on titles including MamaHawk and SwingStar VR. Kati is also Global Creative Director at The Economist Media Businesses, a founding member of Studio 1482, and a contributor to the drawing tutorial One Drawing A Day (Quarry Books). When she has time, Kati contributes to her drawing tumblr, Big City Tales, and seeks out unusual licorice candies from around the world.

Amara Keller

Amara Keller

Amara is a Developer Advocate with IBM. Before her step into developer relations, she was an enterprise web application developer focusing on line of business applications and assisting developers across various teams on implementing proprietary and open source solutions. She’s passionate about UX, technical communities (both online and offline) and excited to see where advances in AI take us. In her spare time she experiments in the kitchen and plays console video games.

Kurt Young

Kurt is the founder and CEO of Mokuni LLC. Mokuni is a New York based gaming company producing video games and also utilizing VR/AR. Their game “Kitty in the Box” has been featured on major platforms including the App Store, Google Play, Amazon and Microsoft Store, and has tens of millions of downloads. Kurt is a strong believer in using games for social change, he has been constantly exploring on using gamification for neuro-rehabilitation. Kurt holds a MFA in Computer Art degree from the School of Visual Arts. Prior to founding Mokuni, he has worked professionally in Shanghai.
