SEE YOU YESTERDAY
Drama
Spike Lee continues his commitment to elevating emerging voices by executive producing this homegrown feature debut from Stefon Bristol. Based on Bristol’s NYU short thesis film of the same name, See You Yesterday sees the young filmmaker’s cinematic influences Do The Right Thing and Back To The Future converge in a time travel adventure about a pair of Brooklyn teens trying to undo the damage of a police shooting.
Eden Duncan-Smith plays CJ, a science prodigy who develops a makeshift time machine with her best friend (Danté Crichlow) and is determined to use the invention to go back in time and save her older brother from being wrongfully killed by the police. Brian Vaughn Bradley, Jr.—better known as Astro (The X Factor, Season 1)—delivers a notable performance as Calvin, CJ’s ill-fated brother. On the heels of his supporting role in breakout hit Luce, he’s proving to be an actor to watch in 2019. In See You Yesterday, urgent issues ground the likeable teenage protagonists, giving the film a sense of cultural commentary as it asks the audience to consider whether it’s possible to outwit fate.
