The Tulse Luper Suitcases Part III - From Sark to Finish

| Netherlands | 120 MINUTES | English
Most explicitly about storytelling and comprising the last ten episodes of the known life of the "Writer, Patriot, Professional Prisoner" Tulse Luper, Part 3 finds our hero (now Stephen Billington and Roger Rees) washed up on an idyllic beach on the English Channel, where he writes stories and casts them out in bottles onto the water, until the three hefty Contumely Sisters invade his paradisiacal prison. Luper makes his way to Barcelona, conveniently in view of Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, where he finds Cissie Colpitts (Valentina Cervi) in love with the wife of his Antwerp jailer (Ornella Muti) and looking for a sperm donor. But this is a woman's story, told by Charlotte des Arbres (Ana Torrent). Luper is then imprisoned in Turin's Mole Antonelliana, where his duties include inventorying suitcases confiscated from Jews and operating the elevator. After the liberation of Rome Luper is reunited with his Mormon nemesis Julian Lephrenic (Yorick van Wageningen) and then imprisoned in Budapest, where he helps Raoul Wallenberg (Roberto Citran) fish Jews out of the Danube, supplying them with fictitious lives. In episode 14, Luper is not imprisoned in yet another architectural landmark but in an often virtual environment, where he is ordered to play chess with a corporal and write stories for his wife. After his 1001st story he escapes, "drained of stories" and finally free. Or is he? Luper may have escaped the Russians, but he remains Greenaway's prisoner forever.
