Scandar Copti

Scandar Copti is a Palestinian, born and raised in Jaffa. After graduating from "The Technion," as a mechanical engineer, he decided to leave his profession and pursue his childhood dream of becoming a filmmaker. After studying acting and scriptwriting, Copti made the nationally and internationally acclaimed The Truth, a 12-minute mockumentary, produced by the Tel Aviv International Student Film Festival. Since then, Copti has written, directed and edited several fiction, documentary and experimental short films. His video art works were screened at the Israeli Center for Digital Art, the Herzeliya Museum of Contemporary Art, the Redding Art Fair 5 in Tel-Aviv, the Oslo Kunstforening "Stop Making Sense" exhibition and recently in the Sao Paulo “The Exotic West” exhibition. His first full-length feature film, Ajami (co-written and co-directed by Yaron Shani), won the Caméra d'Or Mention d’honneur at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival, Best Movie Award at the Jerusalem Film Festival, 5 Ophir Awards, Best Film, Best Screenplay and Audience Award at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival, The Sutherland Trophy at the London Film Festival, Best Eurasian Film at the Tallin Black Nights Film Festival and other awards at Valencia (Spain) and Ghent (Belgium) Film Festivals. Ajami was nominated for an Oscar® for Best Foreign Language Film at the 2009 Academy Awards. Copti was on the jury of the Tribeca film festival as well as at the Thessaloniki film festival in 2010 and will be member of the Jury in the Istanbul International film festival in April 2011. Dear Saed, i didn't hear about a boycott on Ajami in Spain or anywhere else. can you send me a link or anything written about this? i am very interested to understand what is it about. thank you, scandar

Damn it man, my friend's working with you, his name's Fouad Abdulhadi. He's the one who told me about your movie, said it was the best film he's ever seen, one of the best, and that he's a huge admirer of your work. And you know what, after seeing the movie today, I am one too, a hugeeeee fan, to the point that I ask of you a signature to give him, so he'll give it to me when he comes to Lebanon in summer. Amazing work man, seriously, the irony of your death! The cutting of the scenery! Even your bio up! I mean, ouft! Smalla! Kif 2ejetak fekrit 2l film? Ba3rf so3eb su2ale, bas kif? I'm an aspiring movie director, and I'd love to show you my promo video once it comes out. It has nothing to do with what im doing at university, but since I taught myself to photograph, I wanted to take it a step further. So getting information about how one forms ideas and all is great for me. So how did you get the idea, and how did you develop it so intricately? And how did you manage to slice the story up w tfawta bi ba3da mn dun ma tday3 2l shakhes 2l 3am y7dar? Thank you, شهد

Dear Mahmmad, i am happy that you are interested in my upcoming projects. i am currently developing my next script. Ajami took 3 and a half years of writing (and we were 2 people writing it). i hope my next script will be done in less time. :) Again, i am focusing on issues i am familiar with. My next script is also inspired by my reality. scandar
