Wikipedia gives this definition of Transmedia: “Transmedia storytelling, also known as multi-platform storytelling, cross-platform storytelling, or transmedia narrative, is the technique of telling stories across multiple platforms and formats using current digital technologies. It is not to be confused with traditional cross-platform media franchises, sequels or adaptations.…a transmedia production will develop stories across multiple forms of media in order to deliver unique pieces of content over multiple channels.”

Got that?  Good, now you know what this weird term transmedia means.

Transmedia is the new space where visual storytelling exists because:

1. Every screen we can imagine (TV, smart phone, tablet, laptop and yes, the lowly desktop computer) is reached by Internet video, audio, text and images.

2. Every connected consumer can reach back— through each screen.

One might say it is where the rubber meets the road for visual storytelling in the 21st century. In 2011 we had many posts from experts who can really define transmedia. They are also in the forefront of creating it.

For our last post of year, we are proud to give you our top 10 Transmedia Posts of 2011 from the Future of Film:
