Director Elia Kazan's first film, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn is based on Betty Smith's novel and relates the coming-of-age story of a young girl, Francie Nolan, against a backdrop of tenement life in Brooklyn, New York, at the turn of the 20th century. The screening is part of the series Queer/Art/Film and is presented by Tony Award-nominated writer/performer Lisa Kron, who is best known for her plays Well and 2.5 Minute Ride. Four lucky Tribeca readers will win admission for two to the event at 92YTribeca, located at 200 Hudson Street, on Thursday, July 2, at 7:30 pm.
