30 Under 30 Film Festival Celebrates The Next Wave

This weekend marks the inaugural 30 Under 30 Film Festival, founded by Sebastian Rea (who just happens to be our very own Content Coordinator), with the goal of providing a showcase for emerging filmmakers.

Want to see some of the city’s most exciting new talent? We suggest you to head to the 30 Under 30 Film Festival this weekend (December 13-14) at Film Anthology Archives.  This new festival celebrates budding filmmakers and seeks to share their gifts with with the community at large. Founded by Sebastian Rea, the 30 Under 30 Film Festival provides a much needed showcase for diverse and talented young artists as they are starting out in the industry.

The two-day event is jam packed with films—6 features (3 docs, 3 narratives) and 24 shorts—that offer a diverse mix of traditional and experimental approaches to filmmaking. With 3 different programs to choose from (including a Women in Focus section), 30 Under 30 highlights an eclectic and gifted group of young filmmakers. True to its name, all filmmakers (which the exception of those included in the Master’s section) are under 30 years of age.

One of the most exciting shorts in the Opening Night program is Writer’s Block, written and directed by Brandon Polanco. The story behind the short’s creation is pure Hollywood magic. During a shooting hiatus brought on by Hurricane Sandy, actor Bryan Cranston took the opportunity to hold a scriptwriting contest among the production assistants on the stalled project. Polanco happened to be one of the Pas, and Cranston chose his script to produce and act in.

So don’t miss your chance to be part of this inaugural event. Tickets are now available for purchase, and we suggest you act quickly. Chock full of screenings, parties and panels, the launch of this festival is a golden opportunity for film lovers to meet the stars of tomorrow…today!
