Kelly's Curated Internet: The 10th Anniversary of "Lost," Film's Best Musical Moments & "Gilmore Girls"
Also: how Quentin Tarantino changed the way we listen to movies.
We've officially entered fall, and you know what that means: Gilmore Girls is coming to Netflix! Granted, it only means that this fall, specifically, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate. Get on your favorite sweater, light a fall-scented candle, and let's dive into Gilmore Girls, Lost's tenth anniversary, the best uses of music in film, and much more.
- In celebration of the upcoming addition of Gilmore Girls to Netflix, Vulture spent the week focusing on Gilmore Girls appreciation. Here, Margaret Lyons tries to figure out who was worse: Lorelai or Rory? (They were both nightmares, god love 'em.)
- Oh no. Are horror movies dying? In a sad way, and not a scary fun way due to some sort of ghost? Scott Mendelson looks at the future of horror for Forbes. (h/t MediaREDEF)
- It's Lost's tenth anniversary! Wow! Time is moving so fast! Way too fast! It's not good, really! To celebrate how fast time is moving (in the name of Lost's tenth anniversary) Jeff Jensen wrote about the series for Entertainment Weekly, Andy Greenwald wrote about it for Grantland, and Adam Epstein wrote about it for Quartz. I'm not sure if using the same photo was mandatory, or what.
- I love this list very much: The Dissolve compiled their 50 favorite uses of pop music in film. Are they the same as your 50? Write your 50 out and then compare!
- "Denzel isn’t Will Smith, who has always been vocal about his desire to be the biggest movie star in the world. Denzel was that very rare contemporary Hollywood star, the kind who simultaneously graced Sexiest Man Alive lists (with lyrical shoutouts from admiring ladies) and Oscar ballots, even winning a couple in the process." Aisha Harris on Denzel Washington's action movie problem for Slate.
- "The Music Of Pulp Fiction: How Tarantino’s curated classic changed the way we listen to movies."
- Good news for those who make TV and film: You can, uh, use drones now!
- "Broadly speaking, the movie falls into the category of racist American classic, a rich and cherished filmography." Stephen Marche for Esquire on Gone With the Wind.
- Deborah Nadoolman Landis, the costume designer behind movies like Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Animal House, and The Blues Brothers, along with Judianna Makovsky, the costume designer behind movies like The Hunger Games and and Captain America: Winter Soldier, spoke to Fast Company about the behind-the-scenes process behind their famous creations. - "12 Things I Learned at Werner Herzog's Rogue Film School"
- What is your favorite TV to film adaptation? Mine is the future (possible but unlikely) Gilmore Girls movie. Here is The Dissolve with their picks!
- "I was looking for something I’d never seen before. The book talked about narcissism in a really interesting way—the way we concoct not only an ideal version of ourselves in hopes of seducing a mate, but in hopes of seducing someone who is probably doing the same thing." David Fincher in a Time Out New York interview about bringing Gone Girl to life.
- Finally, I'll leave you with a heartbreakingly cute video of a tiny, little boy saying "you powked my hawwwt." It will poke your heart.
