Metamorphosis: The Luxury of Being Yourself

As a moviegoer, it’s easy to forget what actors go through in order to create a character from another time, place, or mental state. With this short film, the luxury hotel brand Conrad Hotels and Resorts takes us along on an actor’s journey to self-discovery.

Metamorphosis: The Luxury of Being Yourself

If you were paying attention during the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, you noticed that Tribeca kicked off a strategic partnership with Conrad Hotels and Resorts (and their sister company Hilton Hotels and Resorts). To celebrate the opening of the new Conrad New York Hotel in lower Manhattan (where we held this year’s Tribeca Film Festival Awards), Conrad’s Concierge services paid special attention to Tribeca festival-goers, bringing them snacks, umbrellas and tickets in their time of need. Post-Festival, our partnership continues to thrive. To that end, we think readers will enjoy something Conrad has been working on — namely, a short film called Metamorphosis. In this video piece, actor Jason Gray-Stanford, who appeared in the TFF 2012 film Caroline and Jackie, demonstrates the multiple transformations an actor goes through from role to role. In just two time-lapsed minutes, he assumes four radically different personas and characters, all the while delivering an introspective monologue on self-expression.

“This film is a fitting way to salute the beginning of a three-year partnership with The Tribeca Film Festival, the start of which has been a resounding success,” says John Vanderslice, Global Head of Hilton’s Luxury & Lifestyle Brands. “The brand fit between Tribeca and Conrad is exceptional, and the film really captures the essence of what both of our brands stand for as it epitomizes ‘the luxury of being yourself.’”

The film was created by Y&R New York and directed by Nick Losq of Rabbit Content. The elaborate transformations were done by makeup artists at Legacy Effects, whose credits include Hollywood blockbusters The Avengers, Alice in Wonderland, Iron Man and Avatar.
