The 5 Most Exciting Things About the 'Godzilla' Trailer

The legendary lizard is back (bet you thought you'd seen the last of him!) The trailer has just hit the internet and we've got five reasons to get excited.

The 5 Most Exciting Things About the 'Godzilla' Trailer

In celebration of the original film's release 60 years ago, the latest Godzilla from Gareth Edwards is slated for a May 16 release. Here are five reason why it's okay to get excited now.

The Director

Gareth Edwards is known for his indie work, like 2010's Monsters, but he's going the blockbuster route with Godzilla. This is good news for us for two reasons: attention to character and story is characteristic of indie films, and more attention to detail.

Graphics

The original Godzilla in 1954—and its sequel Mothra vs. Godzilla ten years later—was notorious for the special effects that became iconic. Look how far we've come. We don't get a clear view of Godzilla, but as his figure cuts through the smoke, I have to admit he looks pretty terrifying.

God-stinkin-zilla

Say what you want, but everyone knows you were counting down the days until the havoc-wreaking lizard showed up again. Godzilla is so much a part of the sci-fi/thriller genre that to forget about that big green monster would be sacrilege. Plus, he's turning 60! Happy Birthday, Godzilla. Here's a whole new city to enjoy at your leisure.

The Cast

Bryan Cranston! The versatile actor appears only briefly in the trailer (don't cry, Bryan!), but his is one of the main storylines. He's join by indie sweetheart Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Juliette Binoche.

The Score

Alexandre Desplat is working hard! He's known for scoring all of Wes Anderson's film since The Fantastic Mr. Fox as well as the final two Harry Potter films. Desplat definitely has some range, and his score already has our hearts racing.
