Buy vegan treats to raise money for Doctors Without Borders, help raise money for Haiti at Bell House, escape to Wave Hill, and more in this week's Price of a Movie.


Open Your Wallet for Haiti
Okay, so this one is more like the price of a few movies, but it's for a great cause. The Bell House in Brooklyn is sponsoring a huge benefit for Haiti TONIGHT, with all proceeds going to Save the Children and Partners in Health. The line-up is impressive, from comedians like Eugene Mirman and Todd Barry and Michael Showalter to musicians Sondre Lerche and AC Newman of New Pornographers. Even NY Senator Diane Savino and NY1 morning man Pat Kiernan will be putting in an appearance. Plus, there will be guest DJs, free food for people who show up early, and tons of raffle and door prizes.

Free T. C. Boyle Reading
Award-winning author T.C. Boyle (The Road to Wellville, The Inner Circle) is doing a special reading of his book The Women and his new short story collection Wild Child this weekend in DUMBO. The critically praised novel The Women, now out in paperback, is a fictionalized bio of the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright viewed through the eyes of the radically different women in his life. The author will be also holding a discussion of The Women and Wild Child and signing books after the reading.

New York Film Club Presents Roma
New York's Film Club offers you the chance to see enjoy classic arthouse favorites with special expert guests who give you the rundown on what you're about to see. This week's feature is Fellini's Roma, which will be introduced by the multihyphenate director, writer, journalist, and professor Antonio Monda. Rub elbows with other cinephiles at this super-cool event that will only set you back 5 bucks (unless you'd like to take advantage of the full bar, of course). Truly an NYC event! Get your tickets in advance—they sell out quickly.

Escape to Wave Hill
Not everyone knows that there’s a gorgeous public garden and arts center just a hop, skip, and a jump via MetroNorth from Manhattan. Even in the winter, Wave Hill is a treat. Bundle up and walk the grounds overlooking the Hudson River, sip tea in the café, take a guided tour, or check out some of the cool cultural events (priced separately).

NYC Vegan Bake Sale for Haiti
Even if you're not a vegan, you'll want to check out this local fundraiser for Doctors Without Borders at Mooshoes Sunday. There will be a raffle for goodies from local businesses and crafty folks, free BUST magazines, as well as sweet treats for vegans and those who love 'em. Plus, it's at a shoe store... Get Bizzy with the Wizard of Iz
The Brooklyn Art Exchange's family event this week is the Wizard of Iz, hosted by Jumpin' Juniper. The Wizard of Iz is "a delightful psychedelic romp through a magical visual landscape, featuring innovative dance/movement combined with state of the art digital video wizardry." Bring the kids!
