Price of a Movie: 1.20.10
Kick things off early with Vampire Weekend, do some yoga at the MoMA, eat on the cheap, see some stories from The Moth get slammed, and more in this week's Price of a Movie.

Upstairs at the Square with Vampire Weekend
The hip kids are all listening to this band called Vampire Weekend—not sure if it has something to do with those vegetarian vampires the Cullens or what—and they'll be playing at the Barnes and Noble Union Square this Thursday at 7 pm. Maybe you can buy some books while you're there, too.
Where: Barnes and Noble Union Square, 33 East 17th Street
When: Thursday, January 21, 7 pm
Price: Free!

Do Some YoGA at the MoMA
Feel like getting some culture while doing your downward dog? The Museum of Modern Art is offering a special yoga class taught by Elena Brower of VIRAYOGA this Saturday, January 23, in the museum itself. Specifically, you'll be om-ing your way to bliss under Gabriel Orozco's Mobile Matrix, a huge sculpture in The Donald B. and Catherine C. Marron Atrium. Because it's such a popular event, the organizers pick attendees by lottery, so email them now.
Where: The Museum of Modern Art, 11 West 53 Street
When: Saturday, January 23, 8:30 to 10 am, doors open at 8:00 am
Price: Free!

Eat Cheap at SOY
Vegetarians and meat-eaters alike dig this Lower East Side café that serves home-style Japanese food. No stand-alone main dish is over $10 at this spot tucked away on Suffolk Street just above Delancey; side dishes like soy rice and croquettes will run you a bit extra. We can’t promise that you’ll be able to stay away from their green tea cheesecake, either!
Where: SOY, 102 Suffolk Street

Rockin' Art in Brooklyn
The Brooklyn Museum is featuring a very cool exhibit called Who Shot Rock & Roll, which features rock 'n' roll stars like the Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, Tina Turner, Bow Wow Wow, Little Richard, and Bob Dylan in all their permutations, from their early days to live performances to what goes on backstage. The museum is also offering an MP3 guide to the exhibit that you can access through your cell phone or iPod—you can even rent an iPod for the day at the Visitor Center. Listen to the photographers discuss the creation of the photos you’re seeing or just enjoy some drum and bass courtesy of Chris Stein.
Where: The Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Parkway, Brooklyn
When: Ends January 31, 2010
Price: Suggested Contribution: $10

The Moth: StorySLAM
The Moth is a famous live storytelling event that features 10 storytellers on one topic, three judges, and one winner. Thursday’s story slam is all about music, and will take place at the very cool Housing Works Bookstore Café. What’s great about the Housing Works Bookstore Café is that it always has cool events, it’s almost entirely staffed by volunteers, and most importantly, all the money you spend at an event or buying coffee or books there goes directly to the Housing Works Inc: "Since our founding in 1990, we have provided lifesaving services, such as housing, medical and mental health care, meals, job training, drug treatment, HIV prevention education, and social support to more than 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS."
Additionally, the president and CEO of Housing Works, Charles King, and the Housing Works 13th Street Medical Director, Dr. Vaty Poitevien, have already gone to Haiti and donated over $30,000 of supplies and medication to PHAP+, a coalition that’s created a refuge outside of Port-au-Prince for Haitians living with HIV/AIDS.
Where: Housing Works Bookstore Café, 126 Crosby Street
When: Thursday, January 21, 7:00 Doors / 7:30 Stories Begin
Price: $7 tickets at the door
