Watch: Five Festival Alums in Theaters This Fall

Miss some of the greatest hits of this year's Festival, from Best Narrative Feature winner Let the Right One In to Mariah Carey in the gritty indie Tennessee? Don't fret, as we've got the scoop on films that have been picked up and ready for a theatrical distribution in this coming fall season.

Let the Right One In

Adapted from the novel of the same name (published in America as Let Me In and stacked in the horror section), this film follows an alienated Swedish boy, Oskar, and his burgeoning relationship with Eli, the 12-year-old vampire next door. Tomas Alfredsson's feature is an intoxicating mix of elements: whether dark and horrific (as to be expected), or sweet and melancholy (the title does come from a Morrissey song), the film is an absolutely singular—and quite Swedish—vision of love and vampires. LTROI is scheduled to open at the Angelika on October 24.

Pray the Devil Back to Hell

Winner of the Best Documentary Feature, Pray the Devil Back to Hell tells the story of how the women of Liberia protested and united in order to end the war in their country. There's a lot to learn and a lot of wisdom in this film, and it opens at Cinema Village on November 7.

Eden

Eileen Walsh (The Magdalene Sisters) won the Best Actress Award this year for her "exquisite rendering of a lonely wife aching to be seen and heard" in her film Eden. The Irish drama, adapted by Eugene O'Brien from his stage play, follows a faltering marriage on the eve of its 10th anniversary. Eden is scheduled to be released in New York on November 7 by Liberation Entertainment.

Lake City

Lake City has a starry cast of Sissy Spacek, Tory Garity, Rebecca Romijn, Drea De Matteo, Keith Carradine, and musician Dave Matthews bringing to life the intense story of a mother (Spacek) and son (Garity) on the run from drug dealers, with Matthews as the scariest, most threatening one of all. It's scheduled to open in New York on November 15 by Screen Media.

Tennessee

When Mariah Carey appeared at the Festival this year, she made more headlines for her quickie marriage to Nick Cannon than her well-received turn in this road-trip odyssey about two troubled brothers driving to Tennessee, with Carey as the Texan waitress with a dream that joins them. The diva glamour is tamped down for the role, but there's still singing in the film—in particular, an original song written by Carey and Willie Nelson, "Right to Dream."
