Discount on a Play: FUBAR

Part of the Americas Off Broadway Festival at 59E59 Theatres, FUBAR is described as follows: "Mary and David live in a small apartment crammed full of boxes her abused mother left behind, while outside in San Francisco people self-actualize like crazy. When Mary is the victim of random violence, their protected world is ripped open and the lives of four people get totally FUBAR (F***ed Up Beyond All Recognition)." Just Opened: The High Line Park
If you haven't had a chance to check it out yet, spend some time this week exploring the brand new High Line Park on the West Side of Manhattan. The much-talked-about, old-is-new park sits on an abandoned elevated rail line, and features an integrated landscape. Designed by the landscapers of James Corner Field Operations with architects Diller Socfidio + Renfro, the team has created a quiet, contemplative atmosphere. The park was an instant success, attracting thousands of visitors since opening in early June. An oasis thirty-feet above ground and away from from the bustling streets of the city, the park combines meandering concrete pathways with naturalistic plantings, along with fixed and movable seating, lighting, and much more.
Where: The first section of the park runs from Gansevoort Street, in the Meatpacking District, to West 20th Street, in Chelsea, between 10th and 11th Avenues
When: 7:00 am to 10:00 pm daily.

The Chelsea Art Museum: Iran Inside Out
The Chelsea Art Museum's newest exhibit, opening on Friday, is titled Iran Inside Out. The exhibition features 25 artists living and working in Iran alongside 21 others living in the Diaspora. The exhibit provides a diverse portrait of contemporary Iranian artists challenging the conventional perceptions of Iran and Iranian art. The 210 works shown include painting, sculpture, photography, video, and installationallowing visitors a new, intimate look into the people, both inside and outside the country. If you go to the exhibit on Saturday, stick around and hear Hypernova, a raved about Iranian indie-rock bank, that will perform at 9 pm on the Chelsea Art Museum's newly inaugurated roof deck.

Summer on the Hudson: Sunset Yoga
Got a case of the mid-week blues? End your Wednesdays this summer with a relaxing Hatha Yoga class in a beautiful sunset setting on the Hudson River. With Hatha Yoga, achieve balance between body and mind, and free the more subtle spiritual elements of your mind through a variety or poses and breathing exercises. Enjoy a free class each week until September 23! If you haven't tried a Yoga class outside, now is the time to zen-out. The class is suitable for all fitness levels; just make sure to wear loose, comfortable clothing and bring your own mat. The sessions are sponsored by Summer on the Hudson Arts and Culture Festival, which also includes concerts, movies, and other summer events in Riverside Park.
Bonus: Pilates Mat Classes in the same location on Tuesday nights at 6:30 pm (through August 12).

State Fair: The Makers Market
The Socrates Sculpture Garden will host the opening of the Makers Market this weekend, presented by American Craft and The Noguchi Museum. The Makers Market is a new open air marketplace, featuring a curated selection of skillfully crafted products, presented in a series of large tents within the Sculpture Park's spring exhibition, State Fair. Approximately 30 makers—from NY, CA, RI, CO, PA, VA, UT, CT, OR, and NH—will sell a broad range of products including textiles, ceramics, turned wood bowls, glassware, bicycles, jewelry, furniture, and motorcycles, as well as one of a kind and small production objects. Come to browse or buy!

NYC Pride Week: The March
NYC Pride Week is happening now through Sunday, and New Yorkers really knows how to celebrate! The theme for this year's event is: "Paint the Town Rudy—Stonewall 40." David Schneider, Co-Chair of Heritage of Pride explains the theme: "to mark the historical milestone, the fortieth anniversary of the Stonewall Riots." On Sunday, June 28, join over 300 groups and 500,000 participants at the The 40th Annual LGBT Pride March, led by Anne Kronenberg, Cleve Jones, Dustin Lance Black and Governor David A. Paterson. (Each will be honored for their dedication to changing the face of the community through activism, art and progressive political action.) FYI from the official site: "To watch the March step-off, you should be in the 50s or upper 40s on 5th Avenue. For larger crowds and high energy, anywhere in the Village is ideal. For smaller crowds, [watch from] the 30s, 20s, and teens on 5th Avenue."
Before or after The March, check out Pridefest, the annual LGBT street fair, which brings together vendors, entertainers and community activities for a celebration in the street.
