Cool Videos
Aspiring reporters/videographers, Rooftop Films and The Brian Lehrer Show want you to take it to the streets and do some YouTube-y reporting on "Uncommon Economic Indicators." The supercool grand prize? Your work will screen at Rooftop. Good for the resume and good for you! Get on it.
We can't get the Grizzly Bear song "Two Weeks" out of our head, and the (well-regarded/hyped/you can't ever get into their shows since they're sold out) Brooklyn band's official video by Patrick Daughters (whose other work includes Feist's "1234" and the Yeah Yeah Yeah's "Maps") is the creepiest, funniest, most mesmerizing marriage of song and concept we've seen in quite some time. In fact, it has us asking: when is Daughters going to get working on a feature?
But before we show you the official video, here's an unofficial one that's worth watching: "Two Weeks" made sweet with a lovely recutting of Albert Lamorisse's Oscar-winning classic, The Red Balloon:
And here's Daughters' take on the song, complete with robots and an air of unerring creepiness, likely due to the "uncanny valley" theory. Keep watching until the sparky ending, which is a recurring motif (see Feist's "I Feel It All"):
