Know: Swedish Vampires Go American
Good news from Variety: Matt Reeves, the director of Cloverfield and frequent J.J. Abrams collaborator (after all, they grew up together) will be working on an English-language adaptation of this year's Festival Best Narrative Feature, Let the Right One In.While Reeves may be known for bringing the horror, let's not forget that he was also a creator (along with his lifetime pal J.J. Abrams) and runner of the WB show Felicity, a sensitive and oftentimes quite excellent and funny glimpse at a girl going to college in New York. Given that LTROI is a decidedly singular mix of horror and tweenage angst (don't expect the histrionics of Twilight, it's all very moody and at a remove in a manner that strikes me as very Swedish), his experience in Felicity's emotional trenches should make him a good fit.
Let the Right One In (Swedish style) is at the Angelika in NYC on October 24th, and reviews are trickling in from its recent showing at Fantastic Fest: Spout is somewhat guarded in its praise, and the fanboys at Ain't It Cool News go crazy for it.
