Film of the Day: Bedazzled
Take the time to laugh this Tuesday with Peter Cook and Dudley Moore. I think Bedazzled is one of the Best Comedies Ever Made (it features nuns jumping on trampolines!), and it's nice to be able to screen the film for free on Hulu.com. It's actually pretty awesome. Anyways, Cook and Moore were erudite and witty and it's a pleasure to see them spar philosophically with the Faust-tale on film. Here's the "pop star scene," which has a message of neediness vs. aloofness (with songs written by that genius Moore) that still resonates. You don't even need to realize that the tall, angular Cook, whose psychedelic song has him speak-talking, "You fill me with inertia" in response to the ladies saying "You drive me wild!" is the Devil and screwing with Moore's hapless Stanley Moon for the sheer fun of it. It's four minutes of tight, concise comic writing.
