My Movie Pitch Contest

Everyone has an idea for a film. Whether you work in the industry or not, it can be tough to get through a cocktail party without hearing at least one “brilliant” pitch. And let’s not fool ourselves—we’ve done it, too.
So, where does yours rate? Sure, we all think that our little mental gem sparkles like the brightest Swarovksi crystal on a Rockette leotard. When it comes down to statistics and—gulp—other people’s opinions, where do you fall in line?
Because we could all use a little healthy competition in our lives, American Express has teamed up with Tribeca Film to help you get your idea out of that cocktail party atmosphere and into the world of cinephiles and aficionados. Hosting a one-of-a-kind contest in the spirit of great storytelling and independent cinema, film enthusiasts everywhere can visit www.amexfilm.com today to upload their 60-second, dream movie pitch in hopes of seeing their idea brought to life on the big screen.
For those of you who are too shy to share your films, share your opinions Siskel & Ebert-style by rating everyone else’s pitches with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down.
The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia
In addition to enlisting the audience to vote, American Express has also recruited a few veterans of the craft to judge: Tribeca Film’s own directors. First up to be featured on www.amexfilm.com is Julien Nitzberg, director of the Johnny Knoxville- and Jeff Tremaine-produced The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia (available now On Demand). Together, the directors will narrow the contestants down to ten finalists, leading to a dramatic virtual conclusion.
Five winners in each round will each receive a nifty Filmmaker’s Toolkit and a chance to win the Grand Prize of seeing his or her pitch actualized in a short film shot by a Tribeca Film director. Oh, yeah—and that film will premiere at the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival. Sure beats talking to the folks standing around the cheese platter.
Don’t wait for a formal invitation. Submit your 60-second video pitch today!
