Academy Award-winning filmmaker, journalist and artist Laura Poitras has spent her career uncovering America’s hidden truths. She will be joined by legendary documentary producer and former President of HBO Documentary Films, Sheila Nevins. Her film Citizenfour won an Oscar for best documentary feature, and My Country, My Country was an Academy Award nominee in 2007. Poitras received the George Polk Award for National Security Journalism and in 2014 she shared the Pulitzer Prize for public service. She is the co-creator of the visual journalism project Field of Vision.

Laura Poitras

Laura Poitras is a filmmaker, journalist, and artist. Her film Citizenfour, the third part in a trilogy about post-9/11 America, won an Academy Award for Best Documentary. Her most recent film, Risk, is a character study of Julian Assange. Her reporting on the Snowden disclosures shared in the joint Guardian-Washington Post win for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service. Her first solo museum exhibition, Astro Noise, was presented at the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2016. She is a co-creator of Field of Vision, a visual journalism project that commissions and supports short-form and feature films about urgent global issues. She is currently suing the U.S. government to learn why she was placed on a terrorist watchlist in 2006.

Sheila Nevins

Sheila Nevins is an executive producer and the former President of HBO Documentary Films, where she was responsible for overseeing more than 1500 documentaries for HBO, HBO2 and Cinemax and HBO Family. As an executive producer or producer, Nevins has received 32 Primetime Emmy® Awards, 35 News and Documentary Emmys® and 42 George Foster Peabody Awards. During her tenure, HBO’s critically acclaimed documentaries have gone on to win 26 Academy Awards®. She is the author of The New York Times bestselling humor book You Don’t Look Your Age… and Other Fairy Tales.
