Nestled along one of the most picturesque sections of the Hudson River is Indian Point, an aging nuclear power plant. Designed in the early 1950’s, the plant is located only 35 miles north of Times Square. With over 50 million people living in close proximity, Indian Point’s ongoing operation continues to spark heated debates over safety for the surrounding community and nearby ecosystems. With unprecedented access to the plant and using rich archival material, the documentary looks at the continuing fight for clean energy and reminds us of the devastation caused by the earthquake and tsunami that damaged the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan. Featuring candid interviews with environmental activists, journalists, power plant employees, local residents, and the former chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Indian Point presents widely varied points of view about one of the most contentious issues of our time. Director Ivy Meeropol creates an eye-opening and provocative exploration of the regulatory process, environmental impact, and the uncertain future of nuclear power in the United States. —Dan Hunt
