Program Notes
From The Beatles' first-ever arena performance in 1965 until Billy Joel's concert before its demolition in 2009, Shea Stadium played host to some of the biggest names in music from around the globe in addition to serving as home to the New York Mets. This lovingly crafted documentary interweaves the history of this recently lost New York City landmark with the career of Long Island native Billy Joel, a performer whose personal connection to the stadium made him the perfect choice to close the curtain on Shea's storied past.
Director Paul Crowder draws on a wealth of historical footage as well as personal interviews with Joel to provide an intimate look at the intersecting histories of a stadium, a team, and a music legend. Set to the soundtrack of Joel's final Shea performance and featuring exclusive concert footage with guests like Tony Bennett and Roger Daltrey, Last Play pays a timely tribute to one of America's most significant venues for both music and sports.

Last Play at Shea
I was at Last Play at Shea on the first night that Billy Joel played. It was the greatest concert that I ever went to. It was so great that time just flew by and the next thing I knew it was over.

Hopefully this movie lives up to it's summary and is not one of those flashy/music montage every minute VH1-type docs that are everywhere. Can't wait!

A long time coming!!!
Was lucky enough to go to both shows. (had floor seats for the 2nd) And was at the demo site on the last day they would allow people in. A worker there was passing out seat bottoms thru the fence.(scored a blue one) Anyway..Shea holds a lot of fond memories for me. I'm sure this film will be worth the LONG wait.

Documentary
From what I hear it took so long because it's not a concert film -- it's a legitimate documentary that covers a lot of ground. And buzz is that it's real good... I know a few people who have seen advance test screenings and they were blown away. Can't wait to see it!!!

Billy Joel Radio Show
And, don't forget that Nassau/Queens is the home to the only radio show in the world devoted to the music of LI's own Billy Joel every Sunday from 2PM to 3PM on 90.3FM.

Last Play at Shea film
As a long time Mets fan, I loved Shea Stadium. It saddens me that it has been torn down and replaced with Citifield. I'm thrilled by the buzz and anticipation of this film. Billy Joel had said he wanted to do a concert film the right way and looks like this will be a respectful yet rocking celebration of the history of Shea Stadium. Of course the climactic moment has to be when Paul McCartney walks on stage to sing "I Saw Her Standing There"! I wish I had been there for that - what a classy way to close it out. Can't wait for this film! Oh and Lets Go Mets!

One incredible, memorable, night of our lives!!!
We were there for the final show. The show was awesome!!! Especially after Billy Joel congratulated my fiancee Melissa from the stage, told her to stand on a chair, raise her left hand in the air to show the entire stadium the engagement ring which I had just given to her while in the 5th row during the show. We will NEVER forget it!!! Thank you Billy for all the years of joy you have given to all of us.

absolutely awesome. you cant make a documentary much better than that. i certainly didnt think that a movie named after a concert could be a biography, a nyc history lesson and a mets tribute all at the same time. incredible. ill buy it the second it comes on dvd

Huge Fan
I was at the preview of the documentary last night at Citi Field. It was great but the sound quality and the acoustics were much to be desired. But, I understand because it is not a movie theater. I am anxiously waiting the release of the film. Thank You, Billy for all the wonderful years and dedication to New York.
