Synopsis

Thirteen-year-old Nick lives and works with his carny dad at a small, family-owned amusement park. Loop Planes takes place on the day Nick's estranged mother is coming to take him away to live with her. This is also the day that Nick meets Katie, the amusement park owner's 14-year-old, rebellious, pink-haired niece. Over the course of the day, their animosity turns into romance.

+About The Director

Robin Wilby has worked on more than 60 short films, features, and documentaries as a director, editor, cinematographer, and writer. She graduated with a BA in visual media from American University and is currently a graduate film student at Columbia University with a concentration in directing.

+Director Statement

There are so few representations of transgender people in the media, especially portrayals of "normal" transgender youth. It is not only essential for mainstream society to have exposure to transgender people, it is also empowering for transgender people to see realistic and positive portrayals of themselves, as well as beneficial for their friends and family.

Through Loop Planes I aim to "normalize" the transgender experience by representing a transgender person who faces the same issues as mainstream society, both big and small, and who has unique qualities and a story outside gender identity.
