In the tradition of Spellbound, this charmingly funny and often moving documentary takes an intimate look at student council races in four diverse middle schools across the country. Filmmaker Vanessa Roth deftly reveals how family, national politics, geography and class all have an impact on the day that's anxiety-filled for some and a blast for others. Ages 10+
About The Director(s)
VANESSA ROTH is the producer and director of the awardwinning documentary The Third Monday in October. Roth’s documentaries have been seen worldwide and have won the highest honors in documentary filmmaking. With national outreach campaigns as part of all her films, the films have served as catalysts for progressive social change. Her first film, the PBS prime time special Taken In: The Lives of America’s Foster Children, won numerous honors including the coveted DuPont- Columbia Award. Roth’s next film, Close to Home, premiered in competition at the 2002 Sundance Film Festival, was highlighted on Oprah and made its national broadcast on the Discovery Health Channel. Roth co-produced and co-directed the PBS special, Aging Out, which was honored with many awards including the Cine Golden Eagle and a Casey Medal for Meritorious Journalism. She then produced the 2007 Sundance Special Jury prize winning short, Freeheld.
