It has been my lifelong dream to make a film about a porno director who is a genius, on the level of Scorsese or Fellini. This has finally been realized with The Auteur, about one Arturo Domingo: a Mediterranean immigrant who gets a scholarship to USC Film School, hones his craft, and finds his voice as the acclaimed creator of Dyke Club and Five Easy Nieces. I wrote the part of Arturo for my dear friend Melik Malkasian, who has been the lead in every movie I've made, which includes five features and a couple of shorts. I call him the Armenian Brando, and one of the reasons I make pictures is to put Melik in them. He inhabits Arturo like a second (fore)skin, and is a slavish devotee to his craft. This is evident in his gaining 40 pounds, learning Italian, and going full-frontal (for a scene in which Arturo visits a hippie commune).

Speaking of nudity, making this movie was also the perfect opportunity to put a lot of good old-fashioned bare skin up on the screen. Both men and women are given equal naked-time. I personally believe that dangling penises are hilarious. They just are. I want to make people laugh and cry. It is my prayer that The Auteur will do both of these things to many people in equal doses. Especially during the Full Metal Jackoff scene. In this age of so many gonzo video hacks, it is my pleasure to present to the world a pornographic artist with an aesthetic sensibility to match the great masters of cinema.
