Woody's Opening Night Party A Star-Studded Success

Larry David and Patricia Clarkson
Last night's gala afterparty for Festival opener Whatever Works, sponsored by DIRECTV, was a truly star-studded event. Navigating one's way through the first floor of the Royalton Hotel, one had to struggle to avoid bumping into a familiar face from the big screen. Within the hotel's darkly-lit, modern space was Larry David, of course, star of Woody's latest; Evan Rachel Wood, his leading lady, who commanded the attention of photographers like no other; Henry Cavill, the third part of the film's love triangle; and Patricia Clarkson, performing in her second film of Mr. Allen's in a row.

And, of course, there was Woody Allen himself. Tucked away on the side of the area that is typically the Hotel's restaurant bar, Mr. Allen seemed to attempt to keep a low profile. However, try as he might have, it was to no avail. With wife Soon-Yi Previn by his side, Woody was absolutely mobbed by an enormous group of people, all trying to get a word in with the man who is considered to be one of the greatest living American filmmakers. Digital cameras flashed all around in a dizzying array of flashes.
Also spotted last evening were Tribeca Jurors Bradley Cooper and Mary-Kate Olsen, who spent most of the evening sitting by Patricia Clarkson. Juror Melissa Leo was also in attendance. Juror Parker Posey was there, sans her two dogs she is constantly seen walking around the East Village. And Debra Messing looked beautiful in a red dress.

The night was clearly a success. The space was immense, yet the party was packed to the brim. Photographers jutted this way and that, doing everything they could to snap as many photos as possible. It wasn't an easy task.
