Surf: Festival News Roundup 2
- Check out indieWIRE's fascinating, must-read take on Kirby Dick's (potentially incendiary) documentary about closeted American politicians, Outrage. New York Magazine's Vulture blog has the poster. A recommendation: make sure to get tickets to the Outrage screening on May 1. There's an After the Movie panel with former New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey. It will probably be memorable.
- Moon, starring the underrated and kind of amazing Sam Rockwell as an astronaut, premieres its great poster and its (spoiler-filled) trailer.
- Returning Festival filmmaker Danae Elon, who's here this year with Partly Private, a movie about circumcision, has just received a Guggenheim fellowship for 2009. Fantastic!
- Find out what Tribeca's own Executive Director, Nancy Schafer, has to say about this year's Festival and some must-see films on Gothamist.
- Make your dreams come true: you can eat ham with Jon Hamm! If you win one of the current auctions on eBay that benefit the Adrienne Shelly Foundation, that is. Make sure to get your bid in before April 16. There's a ton of goodies, including dinner with a variety of stars (Mad Men's Jon Hamm, Paul Rudd, Keri Russell, Kevin Smith, and many more), tickets to the Festival premiere of Serious Moonlight (written by Shelly), and Gold Charity passes to the 2009 Festival!
- Let's not make anybody feel old, but this year does mark the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Tribeca Film Festival is celebrating it with the free Drive-In screening (and PIZZA PARTY!) of the 1990 film. Remember when Vanilla Ice was in Teenage Mutant Turtles 2, singing "Ninja Rap?" Feel like reminiscing? (Warning: clicking on that takes you to five minutes of Ice.) We prefer this "Alternate Theme Song" for the animated show (warning: stoopid content ahead):
