When a documentary about the rock band Kings of Leon was announced as part of the 2011 Tribeca Film Festival lineup, it immediately set the band's fans atwitter. How could people not in NYC see the the movie that would shed some light on this legendary band? (The screenings—with part of the band in attendance—were a big hit.)

We finally have a happy answer to share: Showtime Networks announced today that the film will premiere on the flagship network at 10:00 pm on Sunday, August 21, with encore screenings to follow in the weeks to come.

Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon tells the tale of three brothers and a cousin [Nathan, Caleb, Jared and Matthew Followill] who forged an unlikely path out of a Pentecostal family and into the international spotlight.

How did this happen? In our Faces of the Festival interview with director Stephen C. Mitchell, he explains: "Since the boys were little, they traveled all around the Bible Belt, as they call it, doing revivals and going to churches mostly in Tennessee, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. At first, I wasn’t even sure the stories the boys had told me about traveling around were real, but when I dug in and got to know some of their peers in the church, it became a reality to me how incredible and impacting a minister their father was. The boys were somewhat famous in the Pentecostal circuit. Girls liked them."

He continues: "[Bands] like The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin drew upon the region of America that the Followills are truly from. The boys have had the chance to meet Robert Plant, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Bono, and the members of Pearl Jam, and it really amazes me—these established musicians have a true respect for where the boys come from and why they make the music they make. People who recognized this in the Kings of Leon’s music started appreciating the band much earlier than most people in America. It took a long time for America to catch on to this band."
